Release: Press Release FLY BY NIGHT A New Performance by Lorraine O'Grady February 10 8:30 p.m. $5 Franklin Furnace, in conjunction with the Cric Crac/Nocturne exhibition, will present Lorraine O'Grady's performance, Fly By Night, on February 10th at 8:30 p.m. Admission to the performance is $5. Lucy Lippard has described O'Grady's work as "bitterly beautiful, characterized by striking imagery and layered meanings in a lyrical, nondidactic style." O'Grady's latest performance, Fly By Night, surveys two nocturnal realms - dreams and performance - using Mlle Bourgeoise Noire, O'Grady's white gloved persona, as a rangefinder. Slides of her guerilla action performance, Mlle Bourgeoise Noire Goes To the New Museum (taken by Coreen Simpson and Salimah Ali) are projected on a rear-screen, while in front of them O'Grady acts out dream motifs which contributed to the creation of her persona's adventures, including the invasion of the new Museum. O'Grady is assisted in Fly By Night by Andrew Nahem as the Ringmaster who comments satirically on Mlle Bourgeoise Noire's action in the slides, on the imagery of O'Grady's dreams, as well as on O'Grady's talents and intentions as a performer. |
